"Thrush/Oral Thrush" |
Candidiasis, commonly known as thrush, is an infection of the yeast fungus Candida Albicans. Oral thrush appears as painful white spots on the lining of the mouth and/or tongue, and may bleed if scraped. Thrush can also appear in the pubic and genital area. Thrush is not in itself a sexually-transmitted disease, but its presence is usually an indication of an imbalance in the person's immune system due to some other disease or medication. In this condition, the 'good' bacteria that control the yeast fungus weaken. Stress can also contribute to the disease. |
Treating thrush is easy, with the help of doctor-prescribed antifungals and a proper diet. Eating yogurt, which restores the body's 'good' bacteria, can also aid in combating thrush. A stress-free lifestyle will be beneficial.
